| "Overdraft Fees": Bank of America Will Rob You Blind |
Bank of America places all debit card transactions into a status of pending, despite removing the funds from customers' accounts. It holds them as pending for several days, waiting in hope that your balance will unexpectedly go negative. If it does go negative, Bank of America then go back in time and charges you a fee for all of the transactions they put into a pending state, despite the fact that they already took that money out of your account. For each of those legitimate and funded transactions before the one transaction (at a later date) went negative, they charge an overdraft fee of $35.00. So, you end up paying overdraft fees on transactions that were not overdrafts.
Claims that Bank of America is waiting on receipts from merchants is bull-shit. First off, there are no such receipts on debit transactions. Secondly, the one transaction they put through immediately is the first one to go negative. This transaction IS NOT put into a pending status and, miraculously, at that very moment, all of the earlier transactions suddenly change from "pending" to "over drafted."
In my book, this is theft, plain and simple. Now, when this happens, Bank of America puts out a report to a database shared by all banks saying you just over drafted (despite the fact you paid for overdraft "protection". If you try to change banks because of Bank of America's abuse of your account, other banks may not wish to open an account with you. Basically, once Bank of America has its dick up your ass, Bank of America metaphorically hold a gun to your head force you to stay put for endless raping.
I personally know of my individuals severely hurt by Bank of America's outrageous and unethical business practices. Be smart and stay away from Bank of America. Close your account if you have one there.
