Falling
Tossing in my sleep I fear falling Falling from this life Tenuously self created Dependent upon the variables Of a market economy And the missed evil gaze Of Capitalist predators In high places Who got where they are By stabbing others in the back Or deceiving those about them Or stealing from the public Or obsessing about work To the detriment of their families In the name of their families Out of some perverted sense of purpose Out of some dark urge to cannibalize their opponents These monsters in high places Steal away my sleep As they steal away my labor And suck the life out of my dreams Leaving me to my rotting soul Festering in the stench of capitalist decay Wishing to sleep and never to wake Astonished as the socialists of the east sell out To the great green monster of the west Knowing their impending disillusion I sleep no easier anticipating their pain When they realize that they have sold their souls For an empty pot of gold At the end of an ashen rainbow A fairy tale of decay and death In the promises of Wall Street.
