Bridget O'Bunny (The Snitch Bunny)
Author: Stephen DeVoy

Racist spy cartoon provided by the U.S. Government

Bunnies live in holes because they need to hide from predators. Of course, they don't live in holes all the time. Sometimes they need to go out to forage for vegetables. Other times they leave their hole to find other bunnies. It is said that sometimes they do both on the same trip.

There is another kind of bunny, not like the others. This bunny is mean and nasty. This bunny hides in holes too, but it does not hide from predators, it hides from other bunnies. This special kind of bunny is called a snitch bunny. Snitch bunnies hide because snitches get stitches.

Bridget O'Bunny was just such a bunny. She was brought up in a bad family. Her family taught her all the wrong things. Though she was a bunny, she foolishly thought she was a wolf. Strange as it my seem, she thought all bunnies were really wolves and because of this she looked down on those fellow bunnies who behaved like bunnies and not wolves. Worse yet, she helped the wolves get the bunnies.

Of course, if the bunnies knew that Bridget O'Bunny was a snitch bunny, no bunny would play with her. She would be lonely. She would never be able to come out of her hole. On the other hand, if Bridget O'Bunny didn't assist the wolves she mistook as her own and help them to capture and eat her fellow bunnies, they might eat her instead.

Bridget O'Bunny knew how to pretend to be friendly. She moved from place to place, befriending other bunnies, watching them carefully to learn their secrets, and then, when these poor bunnies were not looking, she would give the secrets to the wolves. This way, the wolves could catch and eat the bunnies. The wolves, because of Bridget O'Bunny, knew at what time a bunny would leave his hole, where a bunny would eat, where a bunny would go. This made it very easy for the wolves. Bridget was a heartless bunny. It was in this way and for this reason that Bridget O'Bunny befriended Steve De Bunny giving us this story that is sad, not funny.

Steve was a happy bunny. He had a good friend. They hopped happily together. They were a special pair. One day, when Steve De Bunny was far away from home, missing his special bunny friend, Bridget O'Bunny hopped into Steve De Bunny's life.

Bridget O'Bunny gave Steve De Bunny endless complements. She fawned over their new "friendship." She pretended to like Steve De Bunny. She pretended to like him more than Steve's special bunny liked him. Lonely and sad, Steve De Bunny, bit by bit, came to love Bridget O'Bunny. Steve De Bunny could not see what Bridget O'Bunny was up to because he was blinded by love. Little by little, Bridget O'Bunny learned his secrets, gave them to the wolves, and hopped out of his life, leaving him sad, lonely, and depressed.

Because of Bridget O'Bunny, Steve De Bunny lost his special friend. It took him a long time to learn to live without Bridget O'Bunny. Though it was hard, he did learn. In time, he got over Bridget O'Bunny and built for himself a new life in a new place. He fell in love with another bunny and the pair had their own bunny baby.

There came a time, a long time later, when the wolves decided they wanted Steve De Bunny. Bridget O'Bunny was more than happy to help the wolves. Secretly, she missed Steve De Bunny. She saw this as an opportunity to watch Steve De Bunny, secretly and from a distance. She followed him around like a monster in the shadows. She spread terrible rumors about him and his special bunny. She spread rumors about Steve De Bunny's beautiful bunny baby.

While this was happening, Steve De Bunny was confused. "How do the wolves know where to find me? How do the wolves know how to predict what I will do? Why do the wolves say bad things about my special bunny and our beautiful baby bunny?"

One day, Steve De Bunny saw Bridget O'Bunny in the shadows, watching. He secretly watched back. He saw Bridget O'Bunny talking with the wolves. He now knew what was happing to his beloved bunny family. His old friend, Bridget O'Bunny, was not a friend. She was a snitch bunny.

Snitch bunnies cannot snitch well when they cannot hide. Bridget O'Bunny returned to her hole. Now she was known. In time, all the bunnies came to know about Bridget O'Bunny the snitch bunny. No one would trust her anymore. Bridget O'Bunny could never come out of her hole again, because nobunny likes snitch bunnies.

Now, you might think that Bridget O'Bunny would learn that what she had done was wrong. You might think she would feel badly about what she had done to Steve De Bunny and all the other bunnies, especially the ones she fed to the wolves. You might think that, but only because you are not a snitch bunny. Snitch bunnies are special. Their icy hearts pump icy blood. The only tears they shed are for themselves. If you see a snitch bunny crying, don't let its tears melt your heart. Just hop away and don't look back. Just hop away and remember, don't be a snitch bunny. Don't be a Bridget O'Bunny.
